Freedom In Lord Of The Flies

Lord of the flies is a thrilling book filled with lots of sudden fighting and unpredicted actions written by William Golding. The book starts at the beginning of the World War with school boys being transported by plane to an unknown location for safety. The plane crashes on a mysterious island unattended by adults and only kids. They start to celebrate with the thought of freedom and no rules, but soon they realize that no rules means no civilization. From the night the downfall begins, they start hearing things at night, going crazy, and understanding the importance of rescue and realizing this is no celebrating matter, others put the idea of rescue aside and put having more power than the next person first. Later for Jack it started becoming a power struggle how he wanted to be chief and leader over Ralph, so he put up a vote on who wants him to be leader over Ralph, he was infuriated and embarrassed by the fact that no one voted him for chief so he went off alone and soon people started to join his tribe since he knew how to get food to survive. One of the first ones to go off on Jack's side was Roger, he was connected to society until he had joined Jack’s tribe, he had been transformed from nice to a savage that would kill or hurt anything in his way. One example of this was the killing of Piggy, as Ralph and Piggy were standing on the bridge of castle rock asking for Piggy’s glasses back Roger was throwing stones at them but intentionally missing not to hit them. As they approached closer Roger had dropped a rock big enough to crush Piggy from chin to knee and send him forty feet down into the water. This shows that Roger’s evil was revealed very quickly when he was convinced by Jack to join his tribe, it made it very easy to lose the connection because Jack had already lost this connection and had nothing to represent order while Ralph did.
