Ray Bradbury wrote about a society that revolved around the idea of people not thinking for themselves and dismissing the use of books. Books are more than just a means of passing time, books allow people to enhance and facilitate their own feeling and opinions on their views in life. Fiction and as well as nonfiction books give people the opportunity to choose a side that they believe in and can connect with. There are many paths to choose from which lead to different outcomes good or bad, but people are born with the right to choose which path they want to pursue. Secretly collecting books from his work and meeting Clarisse allowed him to see the potential and beauty in the world around him and just how stuck everyone was in this society of people who lost connection to each other. This society has lost its ability to think and conform with a reality beyond what is being fed to them through outlets like TV and radio. It makes living life much harder and people come to a point of lost, because they are empty and they don’t have a means to feel this emptiness. Mildred Montag is an example of how lost this emptiness can make a person. Mildred tries to kill herself and continued to be sick and in pain throughout Fahrenheit 451. She didn’t understand her husband's interest in books and poetry that he discovered. Mildred was a lost cause to a society that really wasn’t living.
Many mistakes have been made throughout history and through those mistakes people learn better ways to confront things. Books can teach about the history of mistakes and having knowledge of things that have happened has helped to prevent the amount of mistakes made in the present. Imagine never picking up your favorite story that was filled with the things that you enjoy reading. Several books are made into films, writers and directors have a chance to depict what they see the story as. When a film is produced from a book, the magic within a book is partly lost. Your imagination can only go as far as the world created by those who made the film. When you read a story you can imagine almost anything and you are free to interpret that story in a way that you choose. You can take from the book what you wish, but from a film, you can only take from what someone else imagines. Imagine never learning about simple lessons that a story taught you.
