Baby rails can be put up, but they still may not stop babies from falling and injuring themselves. Similarly, safety measures can only protect Americans so much. In the events of 9/11, safety measures would have done very little to protect the lives of people lost. Even with the National Security Agency (NSA), the event would have been nearly impossible to defend against. What has barely changed is the progress towards achieving this new denotation of freedom. America has focused on safety abroad more in the past decade, with racism becoming a method to identify threats at home. The freedom of colored people in America has not increased since the dawn of the civil rights movement, yet Americans believe that everyone is equal. In 2005, there were more than 1400 more drug arrests of colored citizens in Washington, D.C., 1300 more than the number of white citizens arrested due to drugs. That’s 43 colored people arrested for every 3 white people arrested. There is no injustice greater than that of racism, because it chokes the freedom of victims. America is fighting the wrong battles.
