Best Free Throw Shooter Many athletes struggle to hit 80% of free throw shots. As the fact is shown, I have had this struggle in my life. Since I’m on the basketball team then I am looking forward to increase this percentage. I hope to increase my percentage to help out myself and my team as a basketball player. My project has been about making 85% of my free throws. With this goal I have achieved at least 80-90%. During this there was only one struggle I had to face, actually doing the experiment and hitting the shots.
Literature Review
The article, “How to Improve Free Throw Shooting,” mentioned that you need to have repetition, form, and routine (Kelbick, 2006). According to experts

It started out like every other day and when I would go to practice then I would shoot the basketball for about thirty minutes to forty-five minutes into practice. Before I had conducted this experiment I sucked as a free throw shooter and everyone just thought that was the funniest thing in the world. Now I am in the top ten on our team and have impressed everyone so far. My actually goal was to make at least 80-90% of my free throw shots. The actions that I need to take were to go home after school and shoot for an hour. Then once I was outside, I had to bring my school ball home to shoot with, which is heavier than my personal ball at home. As far as I am concerned, I haven’t made any particular changes to my experiment except maybe the time of day. The First week I done everything my way, but for the second week I took steps from the experts to use them to shoot better. Due to simply listening to the steps, I have increased my free throw percentage by …show more content…
As the week progressed, I shot better and better each day. Also, each day that I had shot, the numbers had increased by one more out of ten. Until I got 8 out of 10 shots. When I went to the school to shoot, I had started off with 5 out of 10. From there on I had increased by one until I had made 9 out of 10 shots also. There was other times where there was bias data collected because I either worked, or was just being lazy that day. Also on some days my dad and I worked on the car, and the tire fell and smashed my arm causing me not to shooting for two to three days.
Implications
The steps that I have taken in becoming a better free throw shooter have helped me in my field of expertise. It has given me light to the problem that was dark. With this in mind, I have a little sister that is just now starting out to play basketball, like me, she wasn’t the best player to start off, so she came to me to help her on her journey through basketball. My knowledge wasn’t the greatest, but it helped her enough to get onto the team to get better. Without the older generations helping out the younger generations then we wouldn’t have these steps to have for backup if nothing else works. Without the old teaching the young then there won’t be anything to get better with in life if someone hasn’t passed it on to teach.

You might not think basketball could help me academically; but it has. Leading up to this basketball game, academically, I was quite different than who I am today. Prior to this game, I did little talking to people that intimidated me, such as teachers, mostly I was just shy. However, after speaking with so many people that I did not know following the game, it has all changed. From that point on, I was brave and unafraid to communicate with teachers.…

During the three nights of tryouts, I was always the first one to finish the sprints, I hustled on every play, and left everything I had on the court. Confident in the way I played, I checked the results when they came out–I had been cut for the second year in a row. My heart dropped and millions of thoughts ran through my mind–I should stop playing basketball, I wasted all my time on something useless, hard work does not pay off. After pondering on these thoughts for several days, I decided to rededicate myself to the sport; I found a more competitive AAU team to play for, IYB Basketball and Wayne PAL Wolfpack, and found myself a trainer. Everyday after finishing my schoolwork, I either went to the gym to lift and play basketball or went to an AAU practice or game.…

Practice makes perfect, but what type of practice is best when it comes to learning? In a study conducted by Mackay, Morgan, Datta, Chang, & Darzi (2000), it is argued that distributed practice is better than massed practice. Mackay et al. tested the effects of distributed practice and massed practice on 41 participants, split up into three groups. The first group was massed practice, the second group was 20 minutes of distributed practice in five-minute blocks, and the last group was 15 minutes of practice in five-minute blocks. It was found that the second group had better retention scores than the first group, which was massed practice.…
