Isla’s Journey to Medical School

Throughout your childhood, you were most likely told that when you grow up, you have to be a doctor or anything that entails a high salary. As a child, you don’t really take this advice seriously since the future, in your mind, seems like centuries away. That is, until you enter your senior year of high school and suddenly memories of your parents nagging you to become a doctor resurface. At this point, you generally would either trudge along with your parent’s wishes or completely ignore what they said. Surprisingly, this was not the case for young Isla, a 17 year old senior high school student who, to her parent’s delight, always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I thought you wanted to be a doctor,” Oliver questioned. Isla looked up with tears in the corners of her eyes and tearfully confessed her reasoning. “My grades aren’t high enough to meet the admission requirements and there is no way that I can get them up in time for the deadline.” “Isla, you can’t give up so easily. The only person telling you that you can’t succeed is you. With some hard work and the right support, I can guarantee you that you can raise your grades up in time.” It was at that exact moment that Isla realized how wrong she was and that Oliver was right. With some hard work and the right help, she was capable of getting the grades that would lead her in the direction of obtaining her dream. She was aware that it wasn’t going to be easy, but with her dream in mind, and Oliver cheering her on, she knew that it would all be worth it in the end. Her journey involved countless hours of studying and tears, but true to Oliver’s word, Isla was able to power through and get the grades needed to get into medical school. She eventually went on to be the doctor that she always dreamed of being while also inspiring others to be persistent in all their endeavours, no matter how impossible it may
