It is especially used in the United States and China. Lithium does not occur freely in nature and is not a pure substance. So, in order to obtain it, companies own brine pools (Lenntech Web). The largest production of lithium is found in Chile (Lenntech Web). However, even though lithium does not occur freely in nature, it can be found in the earth's crust. It can do a number of organic and inorganic reaction. It’s major commercial form is lithium carbonate, Li2 and Co3. This is used as an initiator of polymerization (Lithium). It can be reacted to form lithium chloride which is involved in electricity/ energy (Lithium). It is primarily used in electrostatic non chargeable items. The main example of lithium that we use in our world today is batteries. In addition to lithium being used for energy, it is usually present in most mood stablizing drugs. Some examples are Lithotabs, Eskalith, Lithonate, Lithobid and Eskalith CR. It is used in mood stabilizers due to the fact that lithium exerts the flow of sodium through the nerves and muscle (Lithium History …show more content…
In many cases a person can buy a lithium/compound of lithium, such as a mood stabilizing drug, from behind the counter (Pure Lithium). Also, chemistry/ science teachers buy lithium for labs in school. Some danger of lithium include its flammability , and when combined with certain elements, its toxins. However, every element comes with its dangers and risks. In conclusion, with all the benefits that lithium contains and all the compounds it is used in today, I’d say that we’re pretty lucky to obtain such an
