Harriet Tubman’s Journey
“She freed a thousand of slaves. She could have freed a thousand more, if only they knew they were slaves,” this was one of Harriet’s most well known quotes (Biography.com). Harriet Tubman had to overcome many obstacles in her early, middle, and late life. She was a hardworking and brave African American. Nothing would stop Harriet from her success. If it wasn’t for Harriet Tubman, African Americans would never have reached full freedom.
Harriet’s early life was full of trials, hardships, and responsibilities. As a child, Harriet, was born into slavery. She was owned by Anthony Thomas. She was the 7th child in her family. Harriet’s mother was Harriet Green. Her mother was also referred to as “Rit” Green (Biography.com). She had a total of 9 siblings. One of Harriet’s first jobs was a nursemaid for a small baby. They erected a plaque in her honor. The United States Postal Service made a stamp of her. The Harriet Tubman National Historical Park contains Harriet’s home. It also contains the Harriet Tubman Home. Harriet also got help along the way, she got help from white abolitionists, free black abolitionists, the Quakers (a religious group), and many others (World Book).
Harriet Tubman did many spectacular things throughout her life. She was a great leader, not only for African Americans, but for everyone. There were many things that tried to stop Harriet, for example: bounties, and the Fugitive Slave Law, but no matter what-Harriet succeeded. In her life, she was mostly supported by friends, family, and herself. There is one thing left to say, “She was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and she could say what most conductors can’t say: She never ran her ‘train’ off the track, and she never lost a passenger”
