My mom Angela has always loved reading ever since she was a little kid. She is not the only one in my family that enjoys reading. My dad, grandma, and my cousin also have found a love for reading books. When I received this assignment I knew it would be difficult to single out a specific person to interview due to my family’s love of reading. I eventually decided that I wanted to interview my mom for my assignment. My mom was the pretty much the obvious choice to do the interview with because I knew that she would be able to answer my questions. Books that I enjoyed reading are The Great Gatsby, The Help, The Lovely Bones, A Thousand Splendid Suns, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Outsiders. The reason why I loved reading these books because they are filled with adventure, creativity, adventure, and drama. When I read The Great Gatsby I enjoyed how the book took place in the 1920s, I loved how they used colors to symbolize emotions and themes. I also appreciated how Fitzgerald used Doctor T.J. Eckleburg eyes to show how a higher power was always watching the characters in their endeavors. Another book that uses symbolism to its advantage is the Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. The Lovely Bones symbolism helps guide the reader through the mystery of Suzy death. The use of symbolism in books compelled me to read more books with the encouragement of my mom.
My mom’s love of reading and her determination to overcome her upbringing is truly inspiring to me. This lead me to be studious in school so that I could one day get into a good college. Getting into a good college was important to me because I wanted my mom to respect me and I want to have a successful future. I have successfully achieved my goal of making my mom proud because I got into all the colleges I applied to including but not limited to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at
