What IBM Taught Me
In high school, I didn't have the greatest grades. I was a B minus or C plus student. I worked hard and now I am a B plus student. I worked hard by doing homework and turned it in on time. After i improved my grade, I was rewarded with an internship.
One of my accomplishment is receiving my internship at IBM. IBM Silicon Valley Labs is a computer company that develops software for business. My job title was “Business Analytics” and “Quality Assurance”. My job was to run newly developed software through a program called “DB2” to check for bugs and defect and report it to the developers. These newly developed software are created to analyze information from business and give the businesses stats and how the company is doing. I worked there over the summer of my after my Junior year. The experience taught me how to communicate properly and I learned a lot about computer software. it allowed me to experience the real world and how scary it was to work.

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…

These skills have helped me to know that I am responsible for how much I learn and things in life aren’t going to come easy. I’m very good at collaborating and working out solutions. I make sure people stay on task so we can get things accomplished. I do my best to accept others ideas and admit that their idea may be better than mine. Through working with others in group projects and NJHS, I have definitely learned that I am not always right and others aren’t always wrong either.…

Should college education be free for all U.S. citizens? How are free universities in Germany and other European countries benefiting these countries and students? Imagine how the U.S. would benefit from free college education. How many more students we would have that actually finish college and not only that, but don’t have a huge debt to pay back afterwards. Other than the fact that yes, if there was free college less students would take it as a joke like if it were high school.…

In September I accepted a position as the Mayor’s Chief of Staff at Green Bay City Hall. I worked this job until the middle of February. This was probably my favorite internship because I was assigned to do so many different tasks and assignments. I had done some things for the city where I could see the end result and things I did were brought in at a couple of city council meetings. Dr. David Helpap originally told me to apply for the internship at City Hall.…

Gordon B. Hinckley had once said something along the lines of hard work paying off, if effort is enforced into the work. Over the years I’ve had in high school I have really absorbed the aspect of this, being able to work up and achieve opportunities for the preparation in the outside world. Seventh and eighth grade having to understand the concepts in the athletic sport tennis was hard for me to comprehend. Actually being able to have proper etiquette of holding a tennis racquet was key, but being able to hit a tennis ball was a ‘whole other ball game.’ All two years of playing tennis in middle school I can not remember a single time me nor my tennis partner won a match.…

I have great time management skills which helps me to use all of my time the best I can in class so my homework time is minimised and I can fit other things in like training and other hobbies. Also, I am able to self-manage when working in a team by setting timelines for the work and making sure that I am putting enough into the assignment. Through self-management I am able to operate independently, an example of this is when I catch the bus to and from work, and sometimes it can take three buses to get home. This shows that being independent doesn’t help me only intellectually with school work, but it can help me practically. I also show self-management skills at work because I have to make decisions on how I want to act and who I want to be perceived as, especially to…

Every human being has a consciousness and is self-aware of their feelings and what is happening around them. Even though some people through their life experience are aware to distinguish if they are orientated on the right path or not; some people like me are still experiencing life and still figuring out if they are orientated or disorientated. Through friends and ones’ goals in life can enable them to find their way. Finding our way and knowing who we are is very difficult because sometimes we tend to think that we already know who we are, but along the way we discover that what we thought to be is not that. Ahmed started “of how is it that we come to find our way in a world that acquires new shapes, depending on which way we turn” (1).…
