The controversy of College
The dilemma to many high school students is if a college degree is worth the big amount of money that is required now a day. College is a debate that people say is not worth the expense and all the debt it puts a person in. Many just say it is just a piece of paper that means nothing, but others also say that it is essential to getting a job and further prepares you for your future job. According to the New York Times, some new college graduates struggle to find work. Others accept jobs for which they feel overqualified. Student debt, meanwhile, has topped $1 trillion (Leonhardt 2014).
First, college is worth the money in many statistics. A new set of income statistics proves this answers those questions quite clearly and it’s not even close. Leonhardt a journalist conducted a survey and did research for the economist. He states all the struggles that many young college graduates face, a four-year degree has probably never been more valuable (Leonhardt, 2014). A four-year degree is something that makes you decide if the debt is worth the payout. A study based on Americans with four-year college degrees made 98 percent more an hour on average in 2013 than people without a degree. …show more content…
The pros just outweigh the cons immensely. Like previously stated a degree is something that will make its money back within time. There are plenty of signs showing how a bachelor’s degree can help pave the road to your success. Much of it has to do with just sharpening your skills in writing and critical thinking. Even if your profession has nothing to do with your degree it still helps to have those key skills I recently stated. Yes, there are odds that your debt will stay with you for a little while but the stats show that the degree is worth it when it comes to total economic and experience
