One of the biggest issues in the United States today is the issue of gun control. It seems almost every day there is a new reason to look over the gun regulations that are currently set in place. Are the regulations enough or are they becoming too much? Since the late 20th century, gun control has become one of the biggest issues in the U.S. Pro-gun control advocates and anti-gun control advocates constantly fight the battle, now more than ever, over the restrictions set over gun ownership. Currently in America, “40% of all US homes have guns” and “81% of Americans say that gun control will be an important issue when determining which congressional candidate to vote for” ("Background on Gun Control"). Gun control has become one of the biggest issues in the United States mainly due to issues such as the Columbine shooting, where “On April 20, 1999, two teens went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide. The crime was the worst high school shooting in U.S. history and prompted a national debate on gun control and school safety” (Staff, History.com "Columbine High School shootings").
