One historical figure I believed influenced the early childhood field was Fredrick Froebel. He was named the father of Kindergarten (Gordon, Browne 2017). He developed the first gifts for children (Gordon, Browne 2017). These gifts were the tools children used to manipulate on their own. Many of Froebel’s gifts are used today. Frobel’s quote, play is the highest expression of human development in childhood (Gordon, Browne 2017). Really resonates the point that children are consistently learning new things as they grow through play. They are free to explore the world rather than have it dictated to them.
