Frederick Douglass was a slave who became educated, and he made a big impact on the political society. He was a young boy when he was introduced to slavery around 1818 in Talbot County,Maryland. When he was around twelve he began to read and write, and he then had the key to achieve freedom. Frederick wanted to escape the chains of slavery, but it took him three times to become successful. Anna Murray wanted to marry Frederick in a heartbeat, so when he finally escaped to New York they married each other. His birth name was Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, but he had to use the name Douglass as a safety precaution.He was sadly separated from his mother Harriet Bailey at a very early age. Douglass was very crucial to Lincoln during the Civil War and Reconstruction period. Douglass was actually the person that helped African Americans have equal rights during the Civil War and Reconstruction Period. In the year 1877 Douglass was the post of U.S. marshal for the district of Columbia. Frederick had several high positions in several offices, but he was taken advantage of. He decided to resign from his positions, but he soon died in Washington D.C., on February 20, 1895. He risked his life to give people a voice, and that will forever make him unforgettable.
There are many connections and similarities between Frederick Douglass and I. Frederick Douglass was very big on learning and getting his education at a young age. We are very similar because I love going to school and learning new things everyday. You could tell he was dedicated to learning when he would give bread to poor children for lessons in reading and writing. I am very dedicated to school and extracurriculars just like Frederick.
