On the second day of the convention, the famous African American abolitionist Frederick Douglass and other men were invited to attend the event. The resolutions were all passed and signed after a drawn-out debate about the importance of female enfranchisement. With Frederick Douglass’s help, Stanton was able to get the votes needed to pass all 12 resolutions. The public ridiculed the subject of women having their right to vote so some withdrew their support in fear of being mocked or dismissed. Two weeks later, the convention was held again in Seneca Falls following with an even larger meeting in Rochester New York. Nevertheless, the national woman’s rights conventions continued yearly and the focus of growing awareness of women’s suffrage
