The overall theme I found in Freak was that no matter what, it is good to be different and to stand out. No one is the same and don’t try to change yourself to be like other people. Even though it might get hard because you don’t fit the “standards,” don’t try to be like others. You are beautiful just the way you are. At the beginning of the book, Miriam said it herself, ‘“It’s good to be weird. Who cares if people think you’re weird?”’ This quote from Miriam tells the reader that she doesn’t care that people think she is different and weird. Miriam is not ashamed to be different because she knows that standing out is perfectly fine. Though, as the story progresses, she starts to feel self conscience about being herself.
