The opening of the speech is very memorable. Roosevelt saying "a date which will live in infamy" is a very powerful statement. This speech was a very serious speech and humor would not have been appropriate to use during this time. The president used appropriate language for the audience and the situation. The speech was short, to the point and easy to understand. President Roosevelt had to give this speech in front of a live audience and the media.
