The President of the United States is the leader of the United States and has an abundance of responsibilities. The President is the ultimate decision maker for American citizens, the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces, the person in charge of enforcing laws developed by Congress in the Legislative Branch, and performs much more. In order for a person to become President of the United States they must be over thirty five years old having at least fourteen years of residency in the U.S. as well as be a natural born citizen. In order to be qualified for the presidential position, one should have previously acquired leadership positions in other organizations and associations as well as in the government. Roosevelt was over 35 years old and a natural born citizen. Roosevelt was intelligent and educated and received a Bachelor of Arts in History degree from Harvard College and passed the bar exam at Columbia Law School. Roosevelt had obtained a vast amount of political experience before running for president. Roosevelt served as Governor of New York, New York State Senator, vice presidential candidate, and Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Roosevelt also fulfilled many leadership positions in various organizations and associations and therefore had excellent communication, negotiation, and social skills. Roosevelt was a member of the law firm of Marvin, Hooker, and Roosevelt, president of the American Construction Council, president of the United European Investors, founder of the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation as well as the O’Connor and Roosevelt law practice. Within these positions, Roosevelt learned how to collaborate with others, how to listen respectfully to the ideas of others, and how to analyze information to make the best possible decisions for the group. Those qualities acquired by Roosevelt are essential for the President of the United States since the president is the ultimate decision maker for American citizens and needs be able to make the most beneficial and well-informed decisions. Roosevelt was also extremely strong-willed and determined because even though he faced several obstacles such as being diagnosed with infantile paralysis (polio), he continued with his work even though he was crippled and needed braces for support. This showed that if Roosevelt was willing to continue working with a severe illness, that he would not give up easily when leading and making decisions for America.
