The second and equally as important characteristic that defines a “Person of the Year” is Impactfulness. These people changed the world in their year and through their actions impacted it for better or worse.Time magazine people; Franklin D Roosevelt (34), Vladimir Putin, and The Protestor all changed the world in that year for better or worse and definitely made a lasting impact. Either good or bad, the person has to do something that year that changes and contributes something to the world. Like Franklin D Roosevelt (32) giving hope to the American people being elected to president. Or Joseph Stalin (39) and his Non-aggression Pact with Germany. As well as Harry Truman ending the war in the Pacific with dropping the Nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These people all contributed to the world one way or another and Time acknowledged them with giving them the award. In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt beat Herbert Hoover becoming the 32nd president with 57.4% of the popular vote. Either through war effort or country depression these people all well known for their contributions and change they made to the world. Either good or bad these people change how the rest of the world saw them and the world around them. Their leadership roles changed how their countries were run and how they were seen by others. Their impact on society change the rest of the world and many of them are known for that. All of their contributions altered how history was shaped and form to what the people know of it as today. These people are seen as Time’s “Person of the Year” because of their impact on the world and the people of the time. Founders Henry Luce and Briton Hadden created person of the year to highlight one person who made a change that year. Either big or small these changes were different to society and helped or hurt it.
