Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal Legislation

The Great Depression was a catastrophic event that marked a turning point in American history. Due to the economic hardships of this time period, Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration came up with revolutionary solutions. These included the Works Progress Administration, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Social Security Act. Throughout his presidency, he demonstrated his dedication and commitment in speeches such as his renowned “Inaugural Address” and “The Forgotten Man Radio Address.” As a result of the impact that Roosevelt New Deal Legislation had on the American people, videos such as “Work Pays 1937” were created to emphasize its significance. One video that highlights the significance of the New Deal Legislation, is a video titled, “Work Pays 1937.” This video clearly emphasizes the uniqueness of Roosevelt’s programs since it shows how the New Deal consisted of several programs that were created to improve several aspects of American society. For instance, the Works Progress Administration helped to improve farms and roads in America. In the video, the narrator states, “At last, the farmer finds it possible to reach his market over well-constructed weatherproof roads.” This shows how Roosevelt created this program with the intention of helping farmers since his plan was to rebuild the nation from the bottom up. Also, within this same program, Roosevelt was able to effectively decrease rates of diseases which were preventing people from working. In the video, the narrator states, “Many cities have been freed from the peril of disease by the provision of modern scientific correct sewage systems which often replace antiquated systems entirely inadequate for the needs of the community.” This suggests that Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration was intended to help improve several aspects of society including public health
