After two years, he passed the bar, dropped out of law school and got a job as a lawyer working at a law firm in New York City. However, he had no intention of remaining a lawyer for long. In 1907, he started thinking of how to become a president just like his cousin Theodore Roosevelt. His goal actually happened over the next 25 years of life. In 1910 he ran for State Senate. He spent less than 3 years as the Senate but then was offered a job working for Woodrow Wilson as the assistant Secretary of the Navy. In this job it made him more and more prepared for president.
