The start of Frankie’s changes happen the summer before her sophomore year of high school. That summer Frankie grew a lot and gained weight “in all the right places”. Her and her family went to the beach for vacation and on their last day, she wanted to get away from them. She asked to go into town and her mother refused to let her go because she was showing too much skin and she didn’t believe she could take care of herself. “To them, she was Bunny Rabbit. Innocent. In need of protection.Inconsequential,” (Lockhart, 13). Her family didn’t believe she was capable of making smart choices and it infuriated her.
