“Did I request thee, maker, from my clay to mold me man? Did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me?” This is in the epigraph from the best-selling novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Mary Shelley is best known for this novel and wrote it in 1818 and was revised in 1831 according to Britannica. When most people hear the name Frankenstein, most think of a monster made out of body parts. This is only about half way true, while he was made of body parts, head, brain, heart, and limbs, he actually never got a name, just the Creature. Frankenstein is the name of his creator, Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley and modernized by Gris Grimly, showcases the theme of revenge throughout both Frankenstein and his Creature. To start, in …show more content…
This shows that Victor will go to great lengths to get his revenge on the creature. On the other hand, with the creature, he gets revenge on Victor many times throughout the book. For example, once Victor creates the monster he is horrified by him and leaves without giving instructions or helping. This causes the creature to kill Victor’s little brother William, while accusing Justine of killing the boy. Victor says, “I wished to see him again, that I might wreck the most extent of anger on his head, and avenge the deaths of William and Justine” (74) This proves that the creature wants Victor to feel pain and sorrow that he felt during his time alone. Another example is when Victor starts to make a mate for the creature, Victor decides to rip and crush the mate right in front of the creature's eyes; it makes the creature realize that he will always be hated by Victor. Victor makes a promise to himself, “ I left the room, and, locking the door, made a solemn vow in my own heart never to resume my labours”(139). So the creature decides to get his revenge because he no longer has a mate and kills Victor's best friend, Henry
