14 March 2016 Why is Frankenstein such an important book? Frankenstein is about a man named Victor Frankenstein that happens to reanimate a dead body. His guilt for creating such a monster then tells all about who Victor really is. When the Frankenstein Monster realizes how he came to be and is rejected from society, he seeks revenge on Victor’s family to avenge his sorrow. The book Frankenstein was first wrote to be short story, but was so scary, Mary Shelley decided to turn it into a book. Through this scary story, Shelley illustrates the importance of taking responsibility for your actions, which leads to gruesome ending of death to everyone Victor loves. The first problem in this story happens to be when Victor created the monster. Once the monster was up and moving, Victor got scared and ran away, which allowed for the monster to find new shelter. He then learned on his own how to read, write, and talk. In the story, Victor doesn’t take control of what he had just created, therefore lets the monster roam wherever he wishes. All the monster wanted was love from his creator. With this quote, “I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet”(Shelley 55). He didn’t like the sound of someone screaming, and drew the monster into killing people. This frightened Victor even more. He knew he couldn’t control it and left it alone, so all these murders are on Victor’s hands. The Monster wanted Victor to create a mate for him so he could run away with her and Victor would never have to worry about the monster again. At first Victor thought of doing it, but then he imaged a bunch of baby monsters running around, and decided it wasn’t the best idea. In which, he was right. This made the monster angry, so he threatened to kill his loved ones to get revenge, but Victor doesn’t realize that until the end. Victor’s youngest brother is killed first out of his family and Justine is framed, so is killed as well. “The person that had been killed; when Victor went to see, he realized it was Henry”(Shelley 201). His best friend, Henry Clerval, was killed by the monster. If Victor would’ve taken control of his creation, he wouldn’t be in this situation.
