Our project was inspired by the use of projectors to project imagery on to the human form instead of a flat space, by projecting images on a 3D form instead of a screen it blends fashion and technology into one medium. This method has become very popular recently while some predict this maybe the future of haute and high fashion industry. This unique way allows the model to only “wear” light, which can be easily manipulated. The ease of manipulation allows the creators to experiment with various types of clothing in a matter of seconds. Our group members were inspired by several of these fashion shows including Frank Sorbeir’s Winter/Fall 2013 collection. The group members created all the visual effects digitally; being inspired by elements of nature. The theme of nature was picked to be a medium or material that would otherwise would not be a norm to be used in clothing. By using a projected method it shows that any variation of materials can be used for making clothes. The work was divided among the members that were inclined in illustration to draw out the backgrounds and other members divided the tasks of videotaping and modeling. The background illustrations serves as a contrast to the actual “clothing” that draws more attention to the piece itself. The model is presented in a white dress in order to have the images clearly projected on it. The simplicity of the white dress is a canvas that allows the model to wear several outfits in a few short minutes. The group members created several scenes to show a wide range of visual effects achievable with this method. The whole process is then documented in a video which gives it a performance art element to it as well. Lastly, the piece included music to really tie together the entire performance as a whole and give of the impression of feeling close to nature and seeing it as a viable part of fashion.
