Skyline like the other realtors management companies, owns and manages buildings. Skyline does what tenant activists call “pretext evictions” meaning that they give tenants eviction notices that are under the smallest pretext. All tenants who fight these types of eviction win but most tenants just move out when they get this eviction notice not knowing. Due to this, the landlords are able to get the tenants out of their building so that they can move in people who will pay higher rent. It is also seen that skyline realty has major violations against them for the lead paint law. When skyline does construction they leave high paint exposure linked to stunted development of children and circulatory and nerve disorders in adults. Lastly, tenants who have hired attorneys against skyline realty have stated that when skyline realty takes over properties the manager seeks to intimidate tenants vacate or pay higher rent. Skyline looks for any potential violation of a lease like if a family has a child and the child is not on the lease they claim it is a violation of the lease. They say that either the tenants pay market rent or they have to move out. Skyline has even lately been trying to invest in the tenderloin and soma districts looking for run down buildings that they can flip into something “nice” to upcharge rent in the lower class areas. The housing project ( 2007, April). Overall we see that Skyline realty is big on evicting old tenants for new tenants who are willing to pay “market value” so that they can gain more money. Skyline realty is all for no rent control so that they can continuously raise rent on tenants. Skyline realty is trying to influence San Francisco politics by advocating anti rent control and trying to influence for big business owners, realtors and others along this

victory cannot be attributed to his high levels of campaign spending. Perhaps spending such a large amount of money on his campaign did impact the election outcome, but his campaign spending was enabled and influenced by his incumbency. In other words, since Walker’s spending was caused by his incumbency status, the incumbency advantage was what ultimately influenced the outcome of the 2012 recall election. Since incumbents have better access to financial resources, many good quality challengers refrain from participating in closed elections, since doing so comes with high costs and a low likelihood of winning; therefore, perpetuating and reinforcing the incumbency advantage’s supremacy over campaign spending (Levitt and Wikfram 57).…

While driven by self-interest and the hunger for power, there was some positive influence to these political machines.…

Discussions Question #1 There has been great debate whether a candidate should be limited or have regulated spending in regards to their funds during campaigning. Although there are plenty of other ways money can be spent especially because these phones are wasted on voters who are already devoted for specific candidate. Furthermore I would argue for the amount of money a candidate should be able to obtain, thus keeping an even number across the board between all running parties would help to alleviate corporations expecting favors. However if a canididate decides to run for a seat they should be able to fund or raise the needed money for their campaign, but with set restriction. Indeed it seems as if the richest candidates are always guaranteed to win, unfortunatly even those without money should be given a fair chance for a successful campaign.…

Proposition 50 was the only California state proposition on the primary ballot last June. Due in part to current law, while the suspension of public officials can occur, the consequences of loss of salary and/or benefits are non-existent, allowing for corruption to pervade their position without consequence. Corruption in the service of the public should never be acceptable practice and no public servant should be allowed to get away with a lack of ethics. Proposition 50 addresses the issue of ethical corruption derived from actions involving suspensions without financial consequences being imposed. Congressman Ian Calderon, along with a few other California State legislators, designed the proposition to refuse legislative members’ salaries,…
