During the holocaust over 11 million people died from the Nazis. In 1939 World War two started, but the holocaust started six years before in 1933 when Hitler took power. When Hitler took power, he convinced the people of Germany that Jewish people were the reason that they were in debt, and all their other problems that they had at this time from World War one. March 20, 1933 the first concentration camp, Dachau, opened. Some Jewish people went into hiding but it was not a big threat to them at this time. This camp was focused on the Nazis political enemies. Few Jewish people were actually held here in its early years. However, as time went on more and more Jewish people were put in concentration camps. As a result of the horrific conditions in the camps, people like Francis Foley started to assist them in their escape. …show more content…
Frank is the third child of six born to his parents, Andrew Foley and Isabella Turnbull. He studied at St. Josephs Catholic School as a young boy in Somerset (5) Frank grew up in a structured and well to do family. His father worked full time as an engineer whilst his wife Isabella stayed at home to look after the children. During his young adulthood, Frank also studied at a Roman Catholic Seminary in Poitiers, England.
While little is known about his childhood, as an adult, Frank fought in WWI among other English soldiers (4). During World Was I, he was honorable discharged from the military after he was injured on the front line. Once the war ended, he moved to Berlin to work for the foreign office as the head of the British Passport Control Office (3).
