Frank Clark Obstacles

A famous figure in history once quoted “If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably won’t lead anywhere.” This famous figure’s name was Frank A. Clark. Obviously, a path without hurdles would be everyone’s deepest desire. A path such as this would be seen as a golden sidewalk leading right to the roads of success. A path such as this would be everyone’s wish in the three that they are allowed to have. Granted, this path leads to the high echelons of money and fame, but at the same time incredibly easy. Such a path should not exist. Obstacles are necessary to learn from. In my eyes, a path with no obstacles is as good as any path on its own. I still remember the day I walked into the chalk-filled gymnasium for my first gymnastics meet. …show more content…
Take Walt Disney, for example. Today Disney is one of the most influential companies in the world, holding a small part in every child’s heart. Astonishingly, he was fired from his work in the newspaper because “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” Trampled by his own low spirits and hung by his loss, he decided to brew his own magic, making each of his movies a little more astounding than the last. Even J.K Rowling, international best-selling author of the Harry Potter series started off as a broke, divorced, and severely depressed individual who was trying to make some money by writing a novel and struggling to raise a child all alone. Rowling, now one of the richest women in the world is standing with her head held high, proud of how she didn’t give up, even in the darkest of times. I have encountered so many varied obstacles in my lifetime of 13 years. BOOM! Another one popping up in my face. BAM! Another that I have overcome. Failure in my life is a lead balloon, falling fast and it is my job to pick it up, as I always have. If there has not been a single obstacle in my life, that means one of two things - I either never tired anything new and never went to the deep end, or there is an obstacle awaiting me in the corner. The balloon will always fall, but once picked up, it floats far, far up and away from the ground

Those who are successful are not the ones who sit and wait for things to come to them, they are the ones who go out and get them. However, life is not always as easy as just going out and getting whatever you want with no struggle or adversity to overcome along the way. A critical part of life and becoming successful is overcoming the many obstacles and adversity that one will face on the path to greatness. Overcoming adversity is crucial; but an equally important aspect to obtaining success is having the mindset to accomplish anything. Ayn Rand, an accomplished philosopher and novelist, epitomizes said mindset with her famous quote, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”…

Winston Churchill once said “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Everyone goes through negative experiences in their lives and it is how they react to such failures that determines their character. Just like everyone else in the world, I have gone through my fair share of failures. One being that I was not accepted into my schools freshman mentoring program during my junior year. The freshman mentoring program consists of a group of upperclassman guiding incoming freshman as smoothly through their first year as possible.…

If I had been asked a couple months ago about the most challenging obstacle I have overcome, I would have said my move to the United States from Iran four years ago. In the book, Outliers: The Story of Success, by Malcolm Gladwell, the author is challenging our views of how people become successful. He is saying that to get to where you want to be you can’t rely solely on hard work or determination. It takes much more than that, something that many of us don’t get; opportunities. If you want to be successful, you need a series of opportunities that present themselves to you at the right time, to put you ahead of everyone else. He proves this idea in chapter two by using the rhetorical appeal of logos and ethos.…
