Improved Essays
This article discusses the many aspects of Donald Trump’s hair. The different styles and shades of his hair. The author, Frank Bruni makes fun of Trump’s hair throughout this article. Halfway through the article he brings up Hillary and how this article is in way avenging her as her hair had always been ridiculed by the media ever since she stepped foot into the political light. Mr. Bruni believes it is only fair to make fun of male politician’s hair as they don’t receive as much criticism about their appearances as female politicians do. Bruni acknowledges the president of France, Francois Hollande as someone who pays an extreme amount of money for a hairstyle that isn’t worth the cost. After briefly covering Hollande’s hair, Bruni discusses Trump’s vice president nominee Mike Pence. He talks about how well kept Mike Pence’s hair is and wonders humorously if Trump chose him for his snow white hair.

Judging by how the article’s main focus is ridiculing the Republican nominee, it is easy to know that Frank Bruni is

I found the contents of this article as silly as the current political race. Although, the fact that for the first time ever it is a man’s hair that is being ridiculed and not a woman’s makes me very happy. But then that happiness is overshadowed by the disappointment I feel that someone actually wasted their time and resources to write about someone’s hair. Imagine going through four years of college and getting a journalism degree only to end up writing about someone’s hair. I know people are glad male politicians are being put under the same scrutiny as the female ones when it comes to their appearance. But what we need to do instead of evening out the score is to get rid of the whole game. Just stop publishing articles about anyone’s hair whether they are male or female. There are more important things going on around the world for a journalist to be wasting their time writing a 1000 word article about

In Bad Haircut, a collection of ten short stories by Tom Perrotta, the initial appearance of several characters are distinct from each other. Buddy’s initial reaction to each situation varies greatly from the eventual discovery of true condition. Important figures in Buddy’s life, including, the Wiener Man, the Pasco family, and Sharon, helped to influence the matured young man Buddy has developed to be. While the surface appearance of each situation looks convincing, the deeper meaning hiding behind the first impression can be analyzed through the characters’ actions, dialogue, and thoughts.…

Ask any American from any age group or ethnicity, and within seconds they would be able to identify the man as Donald Trump. Donald Trump has been a very highlighted figure known for his appearance and his business oriented life, which has been mocked over the use of synchronic satire demonstrated before and even after the election through the comedy show “Saturday Night Live”. This article is a perfect example of the ignorance that surrounds the Last Fridays release of The Trump Video. The article suggest that Billy Bush was NBC's scapegoate after the release of the video, and that the video was released as a strategic way to bringing down Trump. I don't disagree that Billy Bush was let go as a result of the video. I also don't disagree that it was strategically released with the intention of tarnishing Trump. However, I do disagree with authors logic.…

As a biracial child in America, I never quite fit in. Growing up in Mendocino,California with exactly one “black” girl (myself) in the entire school, I was the go to for questions about rap music, dance moves and slang. I felt as if I was a representative for the entire African American race even though I am just as white as I am black. Once I left the sheltered bubble of Mendocino, I saw more people that didn’t look like me which left me in an identity crisis, everyone had a community except for me. My African family praised my fairness, and adored my curly tresses, but my white family didn't understand what to do with it.…

    Cosmopolitan Bias

I chose this article because I know that Cosmopolitan is a very biased news source. Their target audience is young college-aged women and since most people of that age demographic are extreme liberals, they try to cater to them to keep their audience, which they do a pretty good job at doing so considering the fact that Cosmopolitan is a very mainstream media outlet. Also, I always disliked Cosmopolitan as their bias is very prevalent, so I did some research myself and checked out some of their articles that don’t deal with Trump or Hillary. I found a surplus of articles on feminist and gender issues such as gender neutral underwear, the wage gap, body positivity, etc. Just by reading the title, I was confronted with so much bias that I knew…

It then analyzes how this battle consequently influences the way African American women manage their impressions with how they chose to wear and style their hair. My study is specifically looking at how African American women use hair as a tool of expression and self-presentation in today’s society. African American hair has been studied in a historical context, analyzing the cultural significance dating back to African tribes (Byrd & Tharps, 2001) as well as the commodification of the afro during the Civil Rights Movement (Walker, 2000). While historical accounts contextualize the phenomenon of black hair, other studies analyze…

    I. Home as refuge/protection In Ode to my Mother’s Hair by Joseph Legaspi and The Road Back by Pak Chesam, home is expressed as a matter of refuge and protection. The two poems are similar in the fact that “home” is defined as a symbolic figure, which is the mother. For example, in the poem Ode to my Mother’s Hair, the comparison of the mother’s hair as “dark as cuttlefish ink,” (Legaspi 9) signifies a mother’s natural instinct when danger is sensed. This analogy provides a vivid imagery on a mother’s character in that they would defend and protect, like a cuttlefish secreting ink, when danger lurks.…
