Daniel was to prepare the soup for the night. Daniel also advised me he had spoken to Chef about

Curanderismo has been a presence in my life since I was very young. Growing up in a small community in Northern New Mexico ensured that I was exposed to traditional medicine and alternative forms of spirituality. This class was not my first exposure to curanderismo, though many of the readings and videos helped clarify and explain many of the elements of curanderismo that had been present in my life, but had not been explained. Curanderismo is just as much of a form of cultural expression as it is a form of traditional healing. Personally, curanderismo is a link to my cultural and family history, helping to continue traditions that my family has had for generations.…

Greg Boyle’s work, on the other hand, focused on the idea of advocacy, and this deeply affected the manner in which I viewed my own involvement at Samaritans. Boyle was working with individuals who were deemed as the lowest members of society, and this is parallel to the people who use Samaritans as a service. Through the work that Boyle did, he was able to listen to the needs of these individuals by simply being their friend, and was able to advocate for them to be able to better their positions in society. Similarly, at Samaritans, I learned to befriend individuals and advocated for them as members of society through…

Edgar Allen Poe is an American writer that is world renown for his dark writing style, which allows the reader to be engulfed into his tales of horror and mystery. The Cask of Amontillado is a classic Poe style story that is littered with unexpected twists and turns around every corner. The reader is able to watch from afar as the main character seeks revenge against his “friend” Fortunato. Poe’s ability to create a character like Montresor amazes me because of the unique way in which he reveals the main characters poor mental health without directly stating that he is insane. The gradual realization of this is what makes the story so unique to Poe’s style.…
