Francis Petty grove was born in Calais, Maine, in 1812. While being educated in his home town. He grew up to enter into a number of independent business activities in New England. He paid fifty dollars for the land that is which known as Portland. He owned a lot of warehouses that made money off of grain, lumber, and salted fish. Later at the age of 75 he died, he was buried at Port Townshed. The man who lost the coin toss was named Asa Lovejoy, he was an attorney in Boston, Massachusetts.
