This is shown after Francis ran away from the lion, and Margot reaches over to touch and kiss Wilson. Margot’s blatancy in that instance and the fact that Francis didn’t have an extreme reaction makes me believe this isn’t the first time she’s been unfaithful. Francis’s acceptance of his wife’s infidelity and the disrespect he faces lets me know that his lack of courage not only causes conflicts when it comes to hunting but also affects his daily life. At the end of “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber”, I believe that Margot purposely murdered her husband. I believe Margot is capable of committing the act of murder, and with her husband dead, she would feel free in a way. The way Margot conducted herself thought the short story showed me that she did not love her husband, but stayed with him because she needed his money. During the story, Margot was also able to do what she pleased because her husband was weaker than her, and she knew how to manipulate him. This level of control over Francis she exudes seems to be something that she possesses during her everyday life and not something that began during the safari. Towards the end of the story it seems that Francis has gained some confidence in himself, this is shown
