As per the article by Faes et al. (2010), the target population for this study were frail community- dwelling older persons with and without cognitive impairments who have experienced a recent fall and their primary family caregivers. And the accessible population for this study were frail community- dwelling older persons with and without cognitive impairments who had fallen at least once in the month before their visit to geriatric outpatient fall clinic of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, The Netherlands and the primary family caregiver who was most involved in caring for the frail older person in assisting with at least one personal or instrumental activity of daily living.

In the study by Faes et al. (2010), the two researchers conducted face to face interviews of 20 participants (10 patients and 10 caregivers). They used qualitative method of the grounded theory which is a constant comparative analysis to identify common themes and issues. And according to Thomson (2011), in grounded theory method, it is important to collect enough data until the interviews yield no new or additional data. In this study by Faes et al. (2010), the interviewees were interviewed till the saturation point of qualitative study was reached. Thus, the researchers reduced the risk of developing inadequate patterns or themes.
5. Was probability or nonprobability sampling used in this study? What specific sampling strategies/methods were used in this study?
In this study, non- probability sampling was used. The specific sampling used in this study was purposeful sampling and according to Creswell (2014), it is a special kind of non-probability sampling which is specially used in qualitative research. The researchers used purposeful sampling because they wanted to select particular participants for a specific reason (study the impact of falling in frail older persons and their family caregivers and foundation for an intervention to prevent falls).

Was the sample size adequate? Provide a rationale.
The sample size was adequate for this study because all frail elderly adults were included in the study who were referred to the day hospital program. Therefore, there was no selection bias which provided with good internal validity for the study. The researchers used randomized blinded controlled trial method for this study which also minimized selection bias. Also, in this study there were some dropped out patients but the characteristics of those patients did not reveal any differences when compared to the main cause of fall. Therefore, this study again proved to have good internal validity.
