Fracking Should Be Graded Essay

Should papers be graded by a computer? this is a controversial subject as more computer AI (artificial intelligence) programs try to replicate the human brain's intelligence to a fine point, or at least in a specific field anyways. Some papers are already graded this way whether it be a multiple choice test or a short response test in some cases. there are a few problems that a computer could have with grading lengthy essays however.
The main reason many people agree with, is the absence of emotion or certain phrases of speech that can differ from one place to another. this is included in anything that would have to do with artificial intelligence as they have to still learn what certain phrases could mean such as in the south cut the water would mean the same as turning off the water, the only differences would be where the author was from and if they were trying to be grammatically correct during the entire essay being aware of the fact that the audience of that essay might not be from the area the author was from. this could especially be a problem when bigger companies try to make a paper grader that would go out to many different regions of even just the …show more content…
for instance one of the larger paper grading programs on the website Paperrater.com doesnt understand the concept of fracking (Hydraulic Fracturing) and simply labeled the word wrong then marked the grade down for “mispelling” a word. This would be a great issue that would have to be addressed in order for this new system of grading to come into effect. If this was to become a major grading system one of two things would happen. either the teacher would have to have students write about old topics in today's society in hopes that it would effectively represent their grade or the paper rating company would have to constantly keep updating itself with news of almost everything happening around the world which wouldn't be an easy task for either
