Fracking is not a new concept it has actually been around since 1940 and will not make The United States independent. That is a common misconception about fracking. Fracking pollutes the environment, wastes a lot of water, and affects ground water. Hydraulic fracturing is also known as fracking. “Hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, is a technique used to extract petroleum and natural gas from underground rock formations. A high-pressure mixture of water, sand and chemicals are pumped beneath the surface to release the gas trapped there. Some of the material pumped in returns to the surface, while some remains underground where it props open the fracture that has now been created” (At Issue: Fracking). It exists because it is a good way to get natural gases. It allows a country to be independent on themselves and not on another country. Fracking causes many problems for the environment. However it can be solved in many ways including treating the water and not polluting the air by using clean technology. There are over 500,000 active fracking wells in the United States (Dong). Fracking companies do not collect all the waste; they leave it were it is. They also pollute the air with diesel fumes. Fracking harms the environment and cause many problems.
Fracking pollutes the environment because there is a lot of waste left over from a frack job. The liquid that goes into the fracking well has many chemicals. They only collect about 30-50% of all this liquid (Dong). The…
