Fr Diego Reflection

Decent Essays
In July 2014, Fr. Diego, a Colombian priest, was appointed as the pastor of St. Domitilla in Hillside, IL. He had just finished his studies on Canon Law in Rome. I met him in the 4th of July. During these year I have been there helping sometimes at Mass, in the office, and teaching to parish groups. In an occasion I had to teach the group of lectors. I taught them the liturgical year and some technics to read, such as intonation, pauses, and breathing. I also taught them practical issues at the time of going up to the ambo to read. We agreed that before going downstairs, they were going to bow down their heads and then continue to the ambo to read. We also agreed that they did the same when finished the reading. However, one of the lectors,

However, I would begin with a read-aloud activity with the class. Then I would spread the teachings from Boundless Grace out over the course of the week. The next lesson would be the sequence of events. From there I would have the next lesson focus on the main idea and supporting details. Once the students have completed these two activities, I would begin a lesson on problem-solving.…

In Richard Rodriguez’s autobiography, Hunger of Memory, his Catholic faith is spoken to have played a critical role in his development, from childhood to adulthood. This development is first shown through his experiences in transitioning from a Mexican Catholic Church, to an Irish American Catholic Church. As he continues to tell his story, he explains how his faith has served as an essential link between home, and school, affecting his private, and public life. While he grows older, and continues through his college career, changes occur to his faith, and the church, causing him to find alternative ways to express his beliefs. Although many modifications occur to his religion, his strong Catholic upbringing continues to lead Rodriguez through…

I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…

Lemoore, California. The 559, the 93245, the small rural town located in the central region of the San Joaquin Valley. A place that will melt flip flops to the ground in the summer, yet it will have people gathering around a fire in the winter with their hands wrapped tightly around a steaming cup of cocoa. Not much goes on in this town and it is not quite what someone would call a vacation destination, but there is indeed something special about this town. This special characteristic is the way religion connects and creates a family out of the majority of people who live in this town.…

Throughout the book, Walls endured many struggles while traveling with her dysfunctional family. Jeannette’s father is constantly getting in the way of her success, from stealing her money to not always making her go to school. Eventually, she leaves her parents behind and makes her way to New York City, where she goes to college and finds success. Similar to how Jeannette had to overcome the obstacles between her and her success, her parents in The Glass Castle, I had to overcome the obstacle between me and my success, my bones.…

Curanderismo has been a presence in my life since I was very young. Growing up in a small community in Northern New Mexico ensured that I was exposed to traditional medicine and alternative forms of spirituality. This class was not my first exposure to curanderismo, though many of the readings and videos helped clarify and explain many of the elements of curanderismo that had been present in my life, but had not been explained. Curanderismo is just as much of a form of cultural expression as it is a form of traditional healing. Personally, curanderismo is a link to my cultural and family history, helping to continue traditions that my family has had for generations.…

As a child I’ve grown up hearing the vibrations of tower bells ringing and the smell of incense that would surround the church, when that occurred I knew I would be reunited with my creator, yet again. As I begin to walk towards the church I began to notice such monumental door look down at me, once I extended my hand to greet the door I walked in. As my foot caressed the church floor the Holy Spirit entered me as I did the sign of the cross, the Holy Spirit was anxious to see its son, my soul. On this Sunday morning I knew that those around me would become by brothers and sisters, and that we would harmonize as a family. The culture of Hispanic Catholics has formed the backbone for Hispanic culture, and has impacted my personal life by refining my mentality.…

Tale of Two Leaders The striking differences between a Catholic priest and a Christian pastor are nearly too numerous to count. Not only in the services they conduct, but their orientation into their field and the way they are taught to interact. The reality of the situation is the contrasts exist only to highlight to comparisons. Between Ronald Cobb, the Christion pastor in Horton Kansas, and Benjamin Tremmel, the Catholic priest of the Good Intent Parish, there exist some of the most uncommon similarities one might find between such different holy men.…
