Foxconn: Labor Law Violations

In the last decade, many sweatshops are characterized by massive Labor Law violations such as, underpayment, no social insurance, and high level of industrial injuries. As consequences, many electronics enterprises realized the violations and are beginning to fulfill the basic legal requirements. Apparently, the difficult situation of workers cannot stand on the Labor Law alone. In order to fight for humane and decent working conditions, the workers must seek help from an effective union that fight for the interest of workers. Workers should join and participate in the union and learn about the labor rights training.

Here is a list of recommendations for Foxconn and its buyers including Apple, Nokia, HP, Dell,
Sony, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola:
Foxconn must honor its promised wage increase and offer basic wage at 2000 yuan to all workers in China;
Overtime hours cannot exceed 36 hours per month regarding to the Labor Law;

The brands should raise their unit price to ensure that workers have a living wage;
Apple and other buyers of Foxconn should deliver codes of conduct to all workers and ensure that they understand their rights;
Provide labor rights training for the workers;
Foxconn should work with the trade union in China;
Foxconn should provide more supportive services to workers;
Investigation on work pressure of workers and working conditions, including management method should be conducted by Foxconn and independent
