Bringing it all Together Fortunately, I wrote the bulk of this paper prior to the last negotiation, where I played the role of the Fox executive. Ultimately, the numbers that my counterpart wanted exceeded what I felt comfortable matching. However, we both earnestly wanted to come away with something for our efforts. Evoking Polish creativity, we turned to ulterior means to pay the actors, financial or otherwise. Using the data I had researched prior to the negotiation, I pointed to merchandise sharing arrangements that could supplement their income. We quibbled back in forth over percentages and found a satisfactory compromise that benefitted the actors while allowing the studio to offset the costs until later. Further, I negotiated down both salary and percentage takes by offering non-financial elements that appealed to their unique wants and desires. Most prominent of these were featuring the actors’ names on DVD box sets and in the opening credits.
