The next thing I knew we were swiftly paddling down the river; as we approached the first rapid we heard the water trickling, it was a smaller rapid. paddling all forward, we made it through with no losses; the other rafts were not so lucky. They all got back in their raft and continued along the river. I had never been on the New River so this was all new to me. We were being chased by a storm all the way down the river, there was a layer of fog resting right above us and in that fog was the storm we could hear the crack of the thunder and see the flashes of lightning. The storm was just high enough to only give us a few …show more content…
Before I know it there is water rushing in our boat and I am being thrown into the water. I remember being flipped and swirled under water for what seemed like forever.Everything was black and silent, there was water shooting up my nose, and suddenly I am stuck underneath something; at this time I have convinced myself that I am drowning. Soon after convincing myself I realized that I am stuck under the raft that is stuck in the rapid. As soon as I figured that out I was being yanked out of the water into another raft. Gasping for air my friends ask me if I am okay, quickly I gave them a thumbs up. They told me I was smacked by the river and I think that is an accurate way to describe

Over summer I went with some friends to the Johnson Shut-ins in Missouri. It was the first time I went camping in years and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. It started with the drive which was about two and a half hours through isolated roads which eventually got kind of creepy because we were in the middle of nowhere, every house had confederate flags posted, and we were running out of gas. We finally found the place and found our campground and we wanted to find out what the shut-ins were exactly. It was on the other side of the campground…

She tells her readers that the reason they were vacationing in Washington D.C was because her older sister, whom was graduating from high school, was barred from going on her senior trip which was in Washington as well, because her class was staying in a hotel which didn’t rent rooms to colored folks. Throughout the essay Lorde shares her frustration and disgust with American racism. Unlike her parents and siblings who choose to shoo away the discrimination, Lorde can’t stand it. What some people do not realize is that if the founding fathers had gotten caught or if we had lost the Revolutionary War, the founding fathers would have been hung for treason. They put their lives on the line to provide freedom for many generations to come. We can celebrate the Fourth of July and have fun, but we also need to remember what our forefathers had to do to get us to this point.…
