It was a Fourth of July and my neighbors and I shot off fireworks, before I knew it, I was racing inside to get the phone, my heart was pounding vigorously fast and hard, and I was already out of breath. I felt my hands tightly grasp around the house phone, my fingers struggling to dial 911. Then I heard a man on the other end of the phone asking what was incorrect and all I could say was “help there is a fire!” Then my fingers clicked the red button to end the call. My stomach filled with one million tiny butterflies, and my head was pounding like a drum. In the distance I could hear screaming and yelling, but all that I could think about was what is going to happen next.
My family and I were at my neighbor's house and my brother and I were lighting fireworks. The fireworks snapped, crackled, and zoomed. Also we saw them zip, pop, and fly high into the sky. Dawson, my brother lit a sparkler and I felt one of the ashes land on my foot, it burned my skin so bad that it left a mark. Then my mother brought out the watermelon and the cake that was red, white, and blue and we all dug in. The cake was so delicious I could taste all of the different flavors in my mouth. All of us were laughing and eating, it was the best Fourth of July I have had yet. That evening was amazing until we saw a streak of light shoot across the sky landing in the field.

When we got there we were all standing in awe, looking at the field. It was on fire, and the flames were blowing in the wind. Then I knew what I had to do, I ran inside to call 911 and told them the field was in a blaze. The fireman said they would get here as fast as they could and that they would do whatever they can to help. After I hung up the phone a went back outside and told everyone the firemen were on their way. Now we are all standing and waiting patiently for the fireman to get

“The Fourth of July” In “The Fourth of July” Audre Lorde tells her readers of her thoughts and experiences while vacationing in Washington D.C, one Fourth of July in 1947. She tells her readers that the reason they were vacationing in Washington D.C was because her older sister, whom was graduating from high school, was barred from going on her senior trip which was in Washington as well, because her class was staying in a hotel which didn’t rent rooms to colored folks. Throughout the essay Lorde shares her frustration and disgust with American racism. Unlike her parents and siblings who choose to shoo away the discrimination, Lorde can’t stand it. Although she is just graduating from the 8th grade, she already has a strong passion for change.…
