Fourth Group Reflection

Decent Essays
As this was our fourth group session, it was a definitely a different experience. First, our group leader led our group by asking what we wanted to discuss tonight. Even though most did not want to talk about the election, we ended up talking about the results of the election anyways, which in hindsight, I am glad we did. Not only did each of us (except 1 member) heard our thoughts/feelings about the new president and the condition of the country, but we also learned each one had strong opinions about the matter as well. With that being said, my opinion struck a chord with another member, which encouraged her to use my comment to justify her position why she was upset with the results of the election. Realizing that I may have offended her,

Not only was I able to learn valuable skills ranging the gamut from finance to Beyoncé memes as a form of political engagement, I met truly the best people and had the best time of my life. From a spontaneous karaoke party with pints of ice cream from 7/11 down the street to Metro failures, I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my weekend with anyone else. I give all props to Young Democrats of America for putting on such a spectacular event even with the cancellation in June. Ms. Ensley was also an invaluable resource for us whether it was discussing campaign strategy or…

I recently attended a group observation at Project Point of Light in Shippenville, Pennsylvania. The overall experience was a positive one. It was very interesting to talk to the members and hear their sides of the story. They truly are just human beings and I believe that meeting with them and having an opportunity to talk to them has somewhat changed my view of sex offenders overall. Though I am still confused by their behaviors, which is somewhat difficult to overcome, but I am more understanding of who they are because they are only human and they know they have made a mistake.…

My high qualities of influence allowed me to make the group agree on the topic of freedom of speech as I talked about how it was astonishingly correlated to our modern-day society. To set a good example for my members, I would come towards our meetings ten minutes early to show my commitment towards the group. During the discussions, I would try to input my innovative ideas and how the podcast should be formatted. I also included the opportunity cost which are other alternatives that may be used in the podcast. I made a group setting enjoyable and was not willing to stand down and be “shy” or “embarrassed”.…

Journal Entry 6 I observed: This session had quite a lot of things to be observed. Some of these include the flow of the session i.e. the session had a very few pauses and went very well when members talked about what they were going through. I observed that a few of the members did not have a good eye contact. This occurred when the member tried to explain a situation.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

The importance of the discussions with the other groups was that we learned about the different opinions that the different groups at the Convention had, and how we could work together to get what we want. Another lesson I learned was that you have to be careful when bartering with other groups, because you don’t want to give away some of your group’s plans, or reveal something that could cause them to go against you. The factions we used impacted the Convention because we included the slaves even when they were not really represented, and…

I must say that I did not expect it too much a focal point, mainly on Black race; to be honest it made me uncomfortable and agitated in a good and bad way. I said this most especially about our discussion posts. If I am being honest now, then I must say that if feel that some people were not as honest as I would have like. However, I do think that it was a good thing because things could have become unpleasant arguments among us students. I feel like our discussions and work should be more than focusing on black people; to me, it was a disadvantage, we all had to pretend to say something nice without looking at the bad and the good.…

Tonight I get a new DVO group, and the group is smaller. I do not feel so bad this time, but I do not like something about group therapy. I did my notes, but needed some help from a night supervisor because I missed a step in the process. She snatched my notebook and said let’s start from the beginning. Okay I will not ask you for help, but who was I suppose to ask?…

I have been a gradate student in John F Kennedy University since 2014, and I have learnt a lot about myself since the beginning of the program. As it was the last assignment for the Group Process class, I chose to go to Al-anon group meeting to observe as my participation and/or observation of group. I was curious about how these group works and how the facilitator who is one of the members works in the group. The facilitator, who was called the chairwoman, opened up the meeting by going over the ritual of the Al-anon meetings and then she introduced herself and the topic of the day, which was “choices” in our lives. Then she asked the member next to her to introduce himself and it went around the circle in the room.…

Yet, I ultimately learned that I was not just a facilitator, I was also part of the group, I trusted my peers and the feeling seemed reciprocal so there was nothing to fear. Essentially, I now feel ready to incorporate theory and feedback from my seminar group into three main areas of group facilitation: addressing silent members, summarizing main themes throughout the discussion, and exploring similarities between the members of a group to enhance universality and cohesiveness. Overall, I believe the discussion went well since it did not feel as if we, the co-facilitators, were leading the discussion, we were merely providing the members with the tools to enhance their self-efficacy as a group. While we presented the main themes, the group itself eventually elaborated their own focus as the discussion developed and they shared their experiences.…

In every group, structured or not, the group process has many effects on the overall group. This paper will look at the group processes of our cohort, the interactions between subgroups, and the way that it has affected the overall distance learning cohort. It will look at themes which have played out during our most recent trip to campus, namely subgroups formed, as well as the difference in anxiety levels between the foundation and concentration groups and the behaviors that were demonstrated. Next it will identify and discuss instances of here-and-now moments within the groups and consider the process commentary that we saw emerge and reflect on possible meanings for it. Finally it will depict how the groups illustrated the concepts of…

Most of the times people have to talk to me first in other for me to talk. I need to improve my communication skills because I am not going to go anywhere if I don 't speak up. After I got to know my group members I felt more comfortable with them. My friends tell me how their groups are and I feel really lucky to have this group because we did good overall. For the first presentation, as a group, we were discussing the topic for our presentation; Everything went well we all gave ideas, and we all agree to do what we chose.…

I have been taking this class for nearly three months. During three months, I learned a lot about small group communication, especially the group climate and interaction are going well in our group. Our group works well on building and keeping positive attitude to our assignments and supportive climate. Each group member devotes to create an atmosphere that our group is the best group. For instance, our group member Erik and Jo always said some words of praise and encouragement, such as “we are really a good group”.…

Purpose and Planning As discussed in this week’s reading, facilitation skills are integral to a successful social work group, and these skills are to be developed in the group sessions that are taking place throughout this course.
