Fourth Grade Research Paper

When I was in fourth grade, I got really sick and missed a week of school. When I returned, there were many tests and makeup work I had to do. My grades had gone down a lot since I missed so much. My grade in math was a D+ because of a test and other work I had missed. I really only cared about the work and getting my grade up. The school year was almost to an end, but since I was in fourth grade, there were finals. That was also a problem because since I missed lots of studying I was worried that I would do badly on the finals. If I earned a low score for my final, then that would mean a low grade for me overall. I had to study for the math test that I had coming soon, plus all the other tests and homework. When I was nine years old, I didn't really want to study. At that age, all you want to do is play and run around your house. Needless to say, this time of my life was one of the most difficult.
The first day I went back to school, I was really tired. It was tremendously hard to stay awake in class, but I needed to study. Mrs. Schachter said, “Alex, you look droopy. Do you need to go to the clinic?” “I’m just tired, that’s all,” I told her. “I don’t need to go see the nurse.” I still was not one hundred percent healthy. I was kind of sick and did not feel

There must have been about thirty questions, but that seems long when you haven’t been at school to learn the lessons that well. The first five questions were multiplying humongous numbers and long division like twelve divided by one hundred and forty four. At the time, that was really hard for me. I went pretty slowly, and I checked my work. The next ten questions were on mean, median, and mode, which I was OK at. The last section was division and multiplication with mental math, which I could ace with one eye open and only a pencil. It took the whole study hall period to finish the test, but I actually ended up thinking I did pretty well. I said “I think I did pretty

I almost had a heart attack when I received my math test with a big fat red F on top of it. It was the third F I've gotten alone in just math class. I was good in the other subjects such as, physical education, science, and reading. The only thing that I had trouble with was math, I hated math and I didn't understand a single thing that was happening when she taught a certain subject. I was going to have to do summer school if I didn’t get my grade up, and I already had my vacation planned out.…

Near the end of my 8th grade year, my parents told me that my father’s company was shutting down. I couldn’t believe it, how could my parents take us away from and all our friends right before high school? But, what choice did I have. We moved to Avon, Indiana. I’d never heard of it before and to be honest I didn’t care to know the name; in fact I didn’t want to hear of any town besides our hometown.…

My fourth grade teacher's name was Mrs. Shafer, I remember that she loved science and we always learned neat science facts in her class. I remember that her favorite color was orange and she wore something orange everyday. I also remember that one of the school days, I tried to help fix the stapler and I accidentally stapled my finger and it hurt really bad but I was too shy to say anything, so I just stood there with a staple in my finger until Mrs. Shafer noticed and told me to go to the office. One of the most memorable things from school is when the music teacher, Mr. Temmaat, had everyone try out what instrument they would be playing.…

I was always taught that nothing can make me mad, cause me to fail, or cause me to succeed. It was my response to the circumstances I was in that would determine my outcome. It was my choice to become mad at a situation or allow myself to fail. If I did fail, then I needed to correct what I was doing in order to turn failure into success with a few stumbling points. My biggest failure was not what most people would call a failure.…

Richie. I simply learned and took in so much information that day, and I realized that it could benefit myself on the test. Before I saw it coming these finals came along, and those endless frustrating study sessions would come to an end. I had several exams from different subjects that I was worried about, but I was not nearly as worried about them as my math final. In the end of these exams I did pass my final exams with a fairly decent percentage although, I had that one final exam to worry about and that was the math final.…

My heart was pounding. Mathematics has never been my forte. I slouched at my desk isolated from my peers in our begrimed classroom, dreading the exam that was placed on my desk. Although, I knew the assessment was aimed at measuring my improvement and general understanding of mathematics opposed to a reflection of my overall ability, it still made me nervous (Emdad, 2009). More importantly, I was nervous because every lesson, Mr Phail stands at the front of the class speaking gibberish about mathematical equations (I obviously do not understand, recalling my last dismal attempt) before directing us to a chapter in our textbook to have completed by the end of the lesson as though we are robots and all learn the same way (Senge et al., 2012).…
