The more the damage spreads to the deeper layer of the skin, the more severe it is. There are three primary types of burns: first, second, and third. First degree burn is the minor while third degree burn being the most severe. Technically, there is a rare case called fourth degree burn. Fourth degree burn are typically caused as the result of the skin being exposed to an extended period of time to the source of the burn; it can be in prolonged contact with fire, chemical, or scalding fluid. Furthermore, electrical and radiation source can cause fourth degree burn as well.
