Four Year College To Pursue Education

Decent Essays
After highschool I plan to go to a four year college to continue my education. The university I am going to attend is Bowling Green University, with pre-medicine as my major. I chose pre-med as my major because ever since I was a young child I have wanted to be a pediatrician. My younger siblings have been in and out of many hospitals, due to their sickle cell disease which exposed me to a lot of different doctors and their methods over the years. I admire doctors for their hard-work and dedication to their patients, something I hope to provide to mine one day.

I chose Augustana for their science programs. They have an extremely high acceptance rate into medical school at about 88% and very interesting research programs. I also chose Augustana because I will be able to play soccer there and it has always been a dream of mine to play soccer in college. Right now I am thinking of majoring in biochemistry with the intent to go to medical school. I have also considered nursing, physician’s assistant and research as possible career paths. Since sports have always been a huge part of my life through soccer, basketball and track, sports medicine has also come up when thinking of possible careers. Luckily the only sport injury I have had was a torn tendon in my finger which required only a splint for a month, so I have not had much experience with sports medicine, but have witnessed many sport related injuries. With any career path I choose I would like to be in the pediatric division because through working at a daycare and at the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis I have learned I have a passion for working with…

Higher education has been an integral part in American history for longer than America has been a country. The first institution of higher education, now known as Harvard University, was founded in the early 1600’s--a hundred and thirty years before America declared its independence from Great Britain. These institutions have changed drastically in the last three hundred years. Students no longer go to Universities to get an education; students now attend because they see college as a means to an end. They go simply to try and guarantee themselves a job after attending. Four year universities are not practical for these people; it will lead to thousands of dollar thrown down the drain, and saddle the student with a huge debt that they will…

So many people in this world are sometimes stuck with the decision of going to a two year college or a four year college. Their reason for having such a hard decision is because they are either having trouble financially or they want more time to think about their future and what they want to do. Some people may choose to attend to a four year university rather than a two year college because some credits that you earned will not be transferrable. Another reason they don’t attend a community college is because some classes taken at a two year college will not be accepted into a four year college. In my essay I will be telling about the pros and cons about both levels of colleges.…

Medicine fascinated me even when I was a child. I remember being about eight years old when my pediatrician asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. As I entered college, I pursued experiences that exposed me to the world of medicine, becoming more involved within my community and university.
