Four Wheeling: A Short Story

Four- Wheeling Living in the country was boring. It only became bearable when with another friend. What could you do when you’re both bored? What could two guys do with only one four-wheeler? What about finding another seemingly abandoned one? That was the day we both had regretted taking what we had found. Between living in the country and being a freshman in high-school living 5 miles away from town there was not much to do for a 15 year old with no ride. During the summer heat I would usually ne staying inside with the A/C on blast in comfort. But during one of those summer weeks I had a few friends over, which just spread out the boredom between us all equally. We decided to take turns riding double tearing up and down the gravel back country roads. We usually were found riding in fields that had nothing planted in them and up the muddy cricks that were used as irrigation for the fields. My buddies weren’t as happy as I was, mumbling and cursing under there breath as they were ripping off siding on the house. I was just grateful that they were there with me. The guy came up ate lunch with us and we got to know each other a little better. After the construction job was we went back to our lounging party back at house until the school year had started back up, grateful we still weren’t working in the summer heat. I ended up working that man willingly a couple more times throughout high-school. Doing mostly groundwork around town pulling trees and whatnot.. He ended up coming to my graduation party a few years later, just goes to show that something good can come out of the dark. This man was like a mentor for hard-work and good intentions.
