Four Types Of Consumer Offerings

Introduction: Most offerings are intended for customer use. Therefore it is important that they are classified based on how regularity of purchased and where. These classifications assist marketers with their marketing strategy and sales projections. For this reasons offerings are categorized into four categories: Convenience offerings, Shopping offerings, Specialty offerings and unsought offerings. I will attempt to explain the four types of consumer offerings, provide an explanation of and how they differ from each other and elaborate by stating examples of products and or services which falls under each category.
Tanner, Raymond. (2010), Defines offerings as goods and services designed to deliver value to customers either to fulfill their “needs”, satisfy their “wants” or both. (p. 111). What exactly is a consumer offering? A consumer offering can be either product or service. The product is tangible offering, such as physical goods purchased, sold or owned. An example of a product is a car, a dress or a computer. A service is an action provided to a buyer, such as getting your hair done at the salon or medical test conducted at a laboratory which has an intangible benefit.

There are four different types of consumer offerings marketing personals classify consumer offerings into these four types of consumer offerings. Marketers in many methods characterize products and services. According to Tanner, Raymond, (2010) consumer offerings organized into four general categories explained as “convenience offerings, shopping offerings, Specialty offerings and unsought offerings” (p. 117). The offering classes are functions of how consumers prefer purchases. Of course, these offerings vary based on customer needs, taste, and preferences. I will now venture into explanations of the different offerings and the type of transaction which the consumer is expected to obtain with each
