Theories are collections of concepts about some real world area of concern or interest which facilitate explaining, predicting, or intervening. With theories, we explain why and how things occur as they do. We predict what is going to happen given the way things are. And we choose ways of acting to make things turn out in some way we desire. Theories are important as they provide a framework for organizing knowledge and they provide a blueprint for action. Management theories are grounded in reality. Managers develop their own theories.
Frederick Winslow Taylor was a Quaker who was born to a wealthy family in Philadelphia and as a teenager he travelled around Europe with his parents. Taylor trained as an engineer and started working in a

FW based his study on people, work behaviour and tasks. Frederick Taylors theory broke the work down for staff by breaking the work down into the smallest possible units. Taylor did this in the effort to determine the most effective method of completing a task or job. FW Taylor’s method consisted of testing the competition of various tasks to determine the optimal amount of work that can be accomplished within a certain time frame. It was studied and developed by Frederick W. Taylor. An example of organisations which have adopted scientific management methods are Mc Donald’s and Ford. To start with McDonald’s, apply the scientific management principles in their business operations because the company establishes systems of rewards for meeting goals. As a current employee of Mc Donald’s, I can see how these systems have being put in place. Mc Donald’s encourages their employees through many effective ways. Except the base pay, Mc Donald’s establish competitive wage and promotion programs. Hard work pays off in Mc Donald’s and managers make sure its recognized and rewarded. Mc Donald’s offer many programs for their employee to develop more skills and educating themselves more. Mc Donald’s provide management courses and refresh courses for new mangers and existing managers. They provide programs such as customer care courses to make sure all staff are trained in the correct way to deal with customers. Mc Donald’s also provide a city and guilds programme since 2009 which is recognised worldwide. All these programs are free of charge for the employees and are there for their employees to upskill and to be the best they can be in their job role. Mc Donald’s also offer great incentive programs with their employee of the month and Ireland offer a scholarship programme of €1000 towards your education each year.
