The world is constantly changing around us, so why shouldn’t we change with it? This is the mentality of progressives; progressives are people who believe that nature is constantly changing and if that’s happening what’s to keep knowledge from doing the same? Knowledge is what helps people get through life and what allows people to be successful at whatever they strive for, after all the more people know the more successful they are. Progressives view the mind as something that is there to help guide them trough difficulties, so that people know what decisions to take when the situation arises. I plan on teaching them by relating my lectures to examples based on their interests, as in sports, music, and so on. I plan on teaching math which sometimes students view as difficult and boring, but I plan on making my class interesting by making my lectures revolve around my students where there is constant participation or group work. Working in groups will help them get a little more practice and get familiar with the people in the classroom, this will help because they will feel more comfortable and this will bring the classroom together as a whole to where they can help each other based on their strengths and weaknesses. Many times students feel like they can do whatever they want because the teacher allows them a bit of freedom. They abuse this freedom and consequences arise from that. Mistakes will be made in classrooms as in life too, so a student talking is okay as long as it is based on what we are discussing in class. Many things in life change from technology, nature, and the society we live in. I want my students to start developing what type of person they really want to be. I want my students to experience my class as not only a math class they have to take, but a class where they will use everything they learned to make them as successful as can be. My student’s role is to become a better person and this is not only for them but also for me. I will make them better students as they will make me a better teacher. My student’s responsibility is to allow me to teach them and not give up on me as I will never give up on them. Like time life is constantly ticking, nothing is ever the same. As future teachers we should envelop everything new and not be so closed minded. After all not only are we trying to teach students problems but also how to solve them. I consider myself a progressivism because I will always strive to become a better teacher. I will envelop anything new that can be productive and help my students become
