Four Men Essay Questions

I was angry when Wilson murdered Ernie and the fact that he is going to get away with it by saying it was self-defense when in reality he provoked Ernie and shot him when he saw him go for his gun. I am also anxious; the characters have reached a point of no return. None of the men are going to give in; they know that this situation will only end when Fletcher or Shane is killed.

After Ernie is murdered, Joe is frightened and wants to just leave because he does not want to see anybody die, especially Shane. Fortunately, Marian makes him reflect and realize that if they leave all of his hard work would have been in vain and that he would never be able to accomplish all the dreams he had for the farm.
4. Similarities Shane’s feelings for Marian reminded of the book A Tale of Two Cities. Shane loves Marian but he would never try to be with her because he also loves Joe and knows that they are happy together. He shows his love by protecting them and doing everything he can so that they can keep their farm. Likewise, in the book, Sydney Carton loves Lucie Manette, but knows that she loves Charles Darnay. In the end, saves Charles and sacrifices himself so that Lucie can be happy with the man she loves.
