The Liberal Arts Breadth Areas that Ottawa University incorporates into its academic program provides an in-depth way of learning from a different point of view. These breadth areas include art/expression, social/civic, science/description, and value/meaning. The multiple intelligences from the previous LAB #1, also integrate with the breadth areas to create a unique perspective on critical thinking. I will explain how this structure exemplifies my strengths, areas for improvement, and personal and/or professional experiences.
Main Breadth Area Strength
My biggest strength as pertained to the multiple intelligences from the previous LAB #1, encompass the breadth area of science/description (Multiple Intelligences …show more content…
When considering that my second highest multiple intelligence was from the spatial sagacity, I would consider the art/expression breadth area to be a large factor in my learning (Multiple Intelligences Assessment, 2015, p. 1-2). According to the Liberal Arts Studies Breadth Area explanations from Ottawa University’s catalog page, the art/expression embodies one who expresses through written, oral and an interpersonal capacity (“Breadth Area,” 2015, para. 3). Although it has taken me a long way to get to this point, taking college level writing and art/music courses has allowed me to show improvement within this breadth area and use my creativity to demonstrate my expressive …show more content…
“Critical Thinking Exercise,” (Neville, 2010) to begin the exercise, we are given four images and asked four questions regarding them. The first question is to put the giraffe in the refrigerator. To do this, I utilized my spatial multiple intelligence, while also incorporating the arts/expression breadth area. The image is small and can easily fit in the refrigerator. The next question asks how to put the elephant in the refrigerator, where I chose to also place the elephant image in the refrigerator. The third question has an image of a lion and states that he is hosting an animal conference and all animals attend except one, which animal is that. With both animals, the giraffe and elephant, in the refrigerator, I was not able to comprehend and answer this question. The final scenario is there is a river where crocodiles are located and needing to cross the river without a boat. I chose to answer this, without being one of the volunteers, by jumping in and swimming across as fast as possible. (p.
