Mice And Biopsy Report

Mice will be housed in animal house facility of Wilmington College and three will be used in this experiment two as experimental group and one as a control group. Before the creation of the wound all of the mice are going to be given di-edhyl-ether as anesthesia. The mice are going to place in the ether chamber inorder for them to inhale the ether vapor. Once the mice inhale the ether, they are going to be removed from the chamber to start wound creation. The mice dorsal sides are going to be shaved using razor to get clear area for wound creation. In both groups, in their dorsal side four equal size full-thickness wounds are created on the mice using biopsy punch (COMPANY) (Wang 2013). Stamp that is 2.5 mm in diameter (Valentin 2009). The punch biopsy is most often used in diagnostic tests for skin disorders. It is believed that most of the errors that occur during dermatologic diagnosis is because the punch biopsy is not being applied correctly (Zuber 2002). After the creation of the wound, the control mouse is going to put in one of the cages with no farther treatment of the wound. For the experimental group, wound swab is going to be used to apply Terrasil on the wound site. Once the ointment is applied on the experimental mice they are too put back in the cage for farther examination of the wound. The wound healing process is going to be checked ever six hours after creation of the wound in order to obtain precise data and observations. Both group of mice are fed once a day. Table one the treatment plan for the control mouse as well as for the experimental mice. The plan is to clean and apply Terrasil ointment on the experimental mice while wearing gloves and using a swab to apply the ointment. The treatment step is taken to make sure that in the experimental group the wound is properly taken care of to reduce the chances of infection or other complications that can hinder the healing …show more content…
When an injury or infection occurs resulting inflammation, increased amount of WBC are migrated through the bloodstream to the wounded site in order to fight off bacteria that are causing the infection in the wound. If there is a lot of WBC present in the wound site, this indicates the presentence of an infection (Chung 2015). WBC will be analyzed weekly soon after the wound is created. The five major WBC I am looking at in this experiment are: Eosinophils, Basophils, Monocytes, Lymphocyte, and Neutrophils using the light microscope at 40x to see presents of the white blood cells (Vale 2013). Cell counting is important in this experiment because it is going to help determine the number of cells found in the wounded site. Cell count can be done manually or automatically (Chung 2015). As stated above, in this experiment I am going to be using the light microscope and manually counting the WBC. By doing the cell count it is going to let us know how well the treatment is working. This data is going to be displayed in Table 1 and there will also be graph to visually display a potential trend (not shown). In addition to cell counting, every week the percentage of the cell numbers of Eosinophils , Basophils, Monocytes, Lymphocyte, and Neutrophils is going to be collected to get an accurate measurement. As shown in table 2, during this experiment the

On Thursday, August 24, 2017 I got the experience to follow Horizon Specialty Hospital of Henderson’s Wound Care Team. During this experience, I was able to witness the removal of a wound VAC (vacuum assisted closure) and surgical stitches, different methods of wound monitoring and discussed the healing process. For new admissions, the Wound Care Team does a physical examination of the body, looking for any wounds, bruises, scars, tubes and IV placements. They take pictures, measurements and note the location of the wound. Since the hospital still uses paper charting, they handwrite all of their notes and upload them to the patients' medical chart when done with their assessment.…

Due to the extreme controversy over the topic the Animal Welfare Act was signed into law. This protects the animals and sets guidelines and laws at both the state and local level in order to regulate animal research. This law states that animals must give the animals: access to clean food and water, regular inspections by vets, proper enclosure size, and appropriate temperature. So the animals are not being exposed to improper conditions, or they shouldn’t be according to the law. Also in order to even use animals for research you must be approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or the IACUC.…

It is important to monitor the CBC incase the WBC starts getting elevated or getting decreased due to possible alveolar inflammation or hypothermia respectively. Complete blood count is likely to be normal or could show leukocytosis. It is unlikely to change initial treatment option but could provide a baseline as can help to reveal other associated conditions since hemolysis may occur (Mahadevan & Garmel,…

The following data has been collected in a series of labs that have been completed over the past two weeks. These labs are to let the examiner gain more knowledge on the topic of hair structures. The examiner will also be able to really see what hair actually looks like outside of the collective hair on top of their head. In these experiments, the class did examine other examiner's hairs to compare them to their own hair making it easy to see the difference in the hair and how it may help in a criminal investigation. The examiners were also able to look at animal hair and be able to see the structure of theirs and how they differ from human hair.…

Burns were traditionally treated with skin grafts, taking sections from parts of a patient’s body or growing sheets of skin artificially and grafting them over the burn. However, the grafts could take weeks or months to heal and during the recovery time, the patient could suffer infections because of the damage to the skin. As a result, Professor Jorg C. Gerlach and colleagues of the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburg’s McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine developed the skin gun. The skin gun was first introduced in 2008.…

Through the dissection of the rat, my lab partner and I were able to gain a better understanding of the animal’s anatomy by viewing it’s external organs, as well, after careful incisions, viewing the inside of the rat’s anatomy. The rat is a typical mammal, with a head, clearly defined neck, trunk and tail. As such, the rat has two unique aspects that distinguish mammals from other vertebrates: an external covering of hair and mammary glands. As a vertebrate mammal, much of the rat’s structural organization is common with humans.…

Animal Testing; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Please read my whole essay with the song “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan playing in the background. Each year, more than one hundred million animals are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. There is debate whether animal testing is causing more harm than good. My sources indicate that there is a fine line drawn between human needs and taking advantage of the species that we consider inferior to us, their debate raises the question: is physical pain caused to animals worth finding the cure? The primary purpose of this medical research is to promote human health.…

The overall role of the wound care nurse is to treat acute and chronic wounds, but is also under their job description to treat ostomies, stomas, and urinary and fecal incontinence (graduate). Those WOCs that specialize only in wounds their scope of practice includes treating skin reactions, preventing skin breakdown, treating and managing vascular ulcers, pressure ulcers, and diabetic ulcers. It is also, important for wound care nurses to take preventative measure such as reducing causative factors, controlling odors, and assessing nutritional needs. The last thing that is very important for wocn to do is to educate the patient and patient’s family preventative and also treatment measures. When providing care to acute and chronic wounds the nurse has to go through a process to adequately take care of the wound.…
